Mekeni Takes Filipino Flavors to Taiwan, Marks 40 Years of Sharing Food and Tradition
TAIWAN — Bringing the taste of home to Filipinos living abroad while introducing local flavors to a new audience, Mekeni Food Corporation is strengthening its international presence as it celebrates four decades of sharing Filipino food with families and communities.
Founded in 1986 in Porac, Pampanga, Mekeni continues to bring its products beyond Philippine shores, reaching Filipinos in Taiwan and giving Taiwanese consumers an opportunity to discover the country’s food culture.
As the company approaches the culmination of its 40th anniversary celebration, Mekeni marked a significant milestone through several initiatives in Taiwan, including its launch at the OWWA OFW Global Center in Taipei, its participation in the Jesus is Lord Olympics and Food Festival in southern Taiwan, and its appearance at the 2026 World in Pingtung – International Market in Kaohsiung.

These activities reflect the company’s commitment to connecting people through food, strengthening ties with overseas Filipino communities, and creating opportunities for Filipino products to reach international markets.
For Mekeni President Pruds Garcia, the company’s four-decade journey is a testament to the trust it has built with Filipino families.
“As we celebrate 40 years of Mekeni, we are reminded that our success is rooted in the families and communities that have welcomed us into their lives. Bringing our products closer to Filipinos in Taiwan is our way of making them feel that, even when they are far from home, a familiar taste can still bring them closer to the people and memories they cherish.”
Bringing Familiar Flavors Closer to Filipinos Abroad

For overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), food can be a powerful reminder of home. Familiar dishes and childhood favorites often bring back memories of family breakfasts, celebrations, and everyday moments shared with loved ones.
Mekeni’s engagement at the OWWA OFW Global Center in Taipei offered Filipinos in Taiwan an opportunity to reconnect with the flavors they grew up enjoying. Through its products, the company aims to make the distance from home feel a little shorter by bringing familiar Filipino food closer to overseas communities.
Beyond product accessibility, the initiative highlights the role of food in preserving cultural connections. Even while building lives in another country, Filipinos can continue to enjoy the tastes and traditions that remain part of their identity.
For Mekeni, every product shared with its kababayans represents an opportunity to celebrate Filipino heritage and bring a sense of familiarity to life abroad.
Introducing Filipino Food to Taiwanese Consumers

Mekeni’s participation in the 2026 World in Pingtung – International Market also allowed the company to reach beyond the Filipino community and introduce its products to Taiwanese consumers.
The international fair provided a platform for visitors to explore food and products from different cultures, opening opportunities for Mekeni to showcase the flavors that have become familiar to Filipino households.
Among the products featured were Mekeni’s Picnic Hotdogs, Classic Tocino, and other Filipino food favorites. Their presence offered local consumers an opportunity to experience Filipino flavors and discover another aspect of the Philippines’ culinary heritage.
The engagement also underscored the potential of food to foster cultural exchange. Products that hold a special place in Filipino homes can introduce new consumers to the country’s food traditions, creating connections that extend beyond national and cultural boundaries.

Mekeni Assistant Vice President for Human Resources and Exports Marilou Uy said the Taiwan activities provide an opportunity to strengthen the company’s international reach while sharing the quality and flavors that Filipino families have come to appreciate.
“Our participation in Taiwan allows us to bring Filipino food closer to our kababayans while introducing our products to new consumers. We see this as an opportunity to build meaningful connections, understand the market, and share the quality and flavors that Filipino families have come to know and love. We hope that every product experience becomes an invitation for more people to discover what Mekeni and Filipino food have to offer.”
Through these engagements, Mekeni continues to explore opportunities to serve overseas Filipinos while building awareness and appreciation for Filipino-made food among international consumers.
Four Decades of Filipino Flavor

Established in 1986 in Porac, Pampanga, Mekeni has grown from its local beginnings into a Filipino food company serving households in the Philippines and international markets. Over the past 40 years, it has continued to build its brand around food, family, and community.
Its Taiwan initiatives reflect the company’s broader ambition to bring Filipino products to more consumers while maintaining its connection to the families and communities that have supported its growth.
As Mekeni celebrates this milestone, its journey represents more than the expansion of a food brand. It is also a story of sharing familiar flavors, preserving connections across borders, and introducing Filipino food to people discovering it for the first time.
From Filipino households to communities overseas and international food fairs, Mekeni continues to carry a taste of the Philippines wherever its products reach.
