San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President and CEO Ramon Ang and Laguna Governor Sol Aragones have joined forces to tackle one of the provinceโ€™s most persistent problems โ€” flooding โ€” through a massive river widening and dredging project that will cost the government nothing.

Praising Governor Aragones for her โ€œdecisive leadership and political willโ€, Ang said this partnership marks a turning point in the provinceโ€™s fight against floods.

โ€œWe will sign a memorandum of agreement with Gov. Sol Aragones to widen all rivers in Laguna. Ang aim natin ay ma-solve ang flooding problem ng Laguna for the next 50 years,โ€ Ang declared.

The plan builds on earlier successes, such as the cleanup of the San Pedro River and San Isidro River, which significantly reduced flooding.

โ€œNung lininis namin โ€˜yung mga ilog na โ€˜yon, napansin niyo na wala nang baha sa SLEX nung last typhoon nitong 2025,โ€ he noted.

Under the new program, all narrow rivers in the province will be widened and maintained regularly. Ang emphasized that the project will not burden taxpayers in any way.

โ€œAt no cost to the government, provincial or national. Hindi man lang kami humihingi kahit tax credit or anything. Zero. No cost to the government.โ€

Governor Aragones called the project a united effort to provide Laguna with a lasting flood solution.

โ€œIโ€™m sure po na matutuwa ang ating mga kababayan sa lalawigan ng Laguna,โ€ she said.

The initiative is supported by Congressman Arman Dimaguila and local government leaders, including Lagunaโ€™s mayors, ensuring the projectโ€™s smooth and sustained implementation.

Ang urged other leaders to follow Aragonesโ€™ example of proactive governance and collaboration. With this unprecedented public-private partnership, residents of Laguna can look forward to a future where flooding is no longer a threat โ€” a bold vision delivered without cost but promising decades of benefits.

This is GOByernong may SOLusyon in action โ€” leadership that transforms vision into reality for the people of Laguna.
