House brings legislative consultation to Laguna seek public input on key issues
CALAMBA CITY, Laguna — More than 4,000 people attended the House of Representatives’ nationwide LegisHear consultation in Calamba City on Friday, October 9, to discuss the legislative process, public participation in lawmaking, and the rehabilitation and protection of Laguna de Bay.
House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III led the consultation at the Jose Rizal Coliseum, joined by lawmakers, provincial and city officials, barangay leaders, and representatives of government agencies.
Dy emphasized the importance of public consultations in gathering citizens’ concerns, recommendations, and proposals to help shape legislation and make the House of Representatives more responsive to community needs.
The activity was attended by Senior Deputy Speaker Ferdinand Hernandez and Deputy Speaker Rachel Arenas, along with representatives from Laguna’s four regular congressional districts and three lone city districts.
The congressional delegation included Reps. Ann Matibag of the First District, Ramil Hernandez of the Second District, Loreto Amante of the Third District, and Benjamin Agarao of the Fourth District. Also present were Calamba City Lone District Rep. Charisse Anne Hernandez, Biñan City Lone District Rep. Arman Dimaguila, and Santa Rosa City Lone District Rep. Roy Gonzales.
Laguna Gov. Sol Aragones attended the gathering with National Bureau of Investigation Director Melvin Matibag, Calamba City Mayor Ross Rizal, Vice Mayor Totie Lazaro, members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, barangay captains, and representatives of local government units across the province. Rep. Tonypet Albano and Laguna Vice Gov. JM Carait were also present.
In her message, Aragones underscored the importance of laws in maintaining peace and order, stating, “Kapag walang batas, walang kaayusan.”
She also thanked the House of Representatives for bringing the legislative consultation to Laguna.
The program included focus group discussions with government agencies to address community concerns and discuss the delivery of public services to Laguna residents.
Laguna was the sixth province covered by the House of Representatives’ nationwide LegisHear initiative, which seeks to provide communities with opportunities to participate in the legislative process and help lawmakers identify issues requiring legislative action.
