CALAX Recognized with Three GREEN Awards for Championing Environmental Sustainability

SANTA ROSA CITY, Laguna — The Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), operated by MPCALA Holdings Inc. (MPHI), has once again been recognised for its strong commitment to environmental sustainability, earning three major honours at the City Government of Santa Rosa’s Guarantee the Restoration of the Environment & our Ecological Niche (GREEN) Awards. This marks the fourth consecutive year that the company has received recognition from the local government.

The GREEN Awards is an annual programme that celebrates organisations, institutions, and individuals making meaningful contributions to environmental protection and sustainable development.

This year, CALAX received the following recognitions:

Sustainable Development Partner for its active involvement in coastal clean-up activities that help protect ecosystems, reduce pollution in Laguna Lake, and contribute to climate change mitigation.

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partner for implementing energy-saving measures, promoting renewable energy, and improving energy efficiency across its offices, toll plazas, and operational facilities.

Earth Hour Advocate for consistently supporting the global Earth Hour campaign and encouraging energy conservation and environmental awareness.

Representatives of MPCALA accepted the awards during the recognition ceremony hosted by the City Government of Santa Rosa.

Aerial view of the MPT South Hub, featuring 1,184 solar panels that generate about 97% of the building’s energy needs. The facility also has a rainwater harvesting system that reduces water use by 10%, along with EV charging stations for company electric vehicles.

As we continue to expand CALAX, we remain dedicated to proving that infrastructure development and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand,” said MPHI President and General Manager Andrew B. Pangilinan.

Stretching 44.6 kilometres, CALAX links the provinces of Cavite and Laguna and is expected to accommodate around 95,000 motorists daily once fully completed. The operational sections currently connect Biñan, Laguna, to General Trias, Cavite, cutting travel time from approximately one hour to just 26 minutes.

Beyond enhancing mobility, CALAX continues to strengthen its environmental initiatives by reducing fuel consumption and vehicle emissions through shorter travel times. The expressway also incorporates sustainable features such as solar-powered systems, rainwater harvesting facilities, and the gradual transition of its corporate fleet to electric vehicles (EVs), highlighting its commitment to greener and more sustainable expressway operations.
