San Pablo City Breaks Guinness World Record in Mass Coconut Planting
San Pablo City has officially earned a place in the Guinness World Records for the Most People Planting Coconuts Simultaneously (Multiple Venue) after thousands of residents joined hands to plant about 10,000 coconut seedlings across 11 barangays on August 29.
According to Guinness adjudicator Swapnil Dangarikar of India, the historic achievement underscored not just the city’s unity but also its vision for long-term agricultural sustainability.

Mayor Najie B. Gapangada Jr. hailed the milestone as the beginning of a three-year program aimed at reviving the coconut industry and restoring San Pablo’s title as the country’s Coconut Capital. He emphasized that replanting is vital since many coconut trees in the city are already old. The initiative also aligns with the planned expansion of Franklin Baker Company under business leader Manny V. Pangilinan, a move projected to create more jobs for San Pableños.

The record-breaking event was spearheaded by the Maiba Naman Movement, the One San Pablo Movement, and the City Government, showcasing the power of collective action.
“For us, planting coconuts today means more opportunities tomorrow,” Mayor Gapangada said. “This is not just an honor for San Pablo, but also an inspiration for the whole Philippines to unite for a brighter future.”
